In 2023, the emergence of generative AI tools sparked discussions and debates around ownership and intellectual property (IP) rights associated with AI-generated content while brands and creators explored new ways to leverage IP within the metaverse.

The unfolding events of 2023 surpassed our expectations. A lot was achieved during the year, more than we predicted. While some of our predictions did not materialise, the year recorded significant progress in the intellectual property space. Notably, the year witnessed the passing of the Copyright Bill into law, increased discussions on copyright and generative AI, an increased focus on digital rights, and the evolving landscape of the metaverse, suggesting an evolving IP landscape.
