In March 2024, the Central Bank of Nigeria, in its ongoing effort to curb speculation and stabilise the naira, revoked the operational licenses of over 4,000 Bureaux de Change operators. In this short piece, we explain the reason for the revocation, highlight the potential challenges that may arise from the move, and discuss its potential benefits.
